BUS552 How to convert PPT to Video file on Windows7

At CALMAT, professors sometimes asks us to post video presentations on YouTube. You can do so by using PPT and Windows Movie Maker. It takes a few steps on Windows XP. However, the same procedure cannot be applied on Windows 7.

Fortunately, the conversion on Windows7 was much simpler than the one on XP.
Only MS PowerPoint 2010 is necessary. (Windows Live Movie Maker was not needed at all!)
OS: Windows 7 (If XP, it's done in a different way)

1) Create PPT slides and add narration.
2) Save as "Windows Media Video."
3) Take a few minutes to create .wmv file. Just wait until it's done.
4) Upload .wmv file to YouTube (takes a few minutes).

Optionally, you can edit video or add background music using Windows Live Movie Maker. My point is, narration [deleted extra space] cannot be added through Live Movie Maker, so that [delete] you need to add it on PPT to create WMV file first.

- Narration volume can be adjusted by editing video menu through Live Movie Maker.
- Background music volume can be adjusted by editing music menu through Live Movie Maker.

BUS552 Financial Accounting HW is done

It's linked to Professor's facebook.
The T-Account is the simplest form of accounting record before balance sheet is created.
The rule is simple:

T-Account
The presentation is on YouTube:

Unfortunatery, 2 mistakes were made in the HW.
1) BUS552 described as BUS528 (Title page)
2) I could not add narration.

BUS552: Good thing about CALMAT ...

View of San Jose Down Town
 from CALMAT parking
One of the best things about CALMAT is the cloud. I can watch the video of the lecture over and over again until I understand anywhere. This is literally true, even I can watch it during my vacation in Japan. This BUS552 Accounting lecture was taken by our adviser and uploaded by the Professor. I would not miss any important idea since it is recorded. Thank CALMAT!!

BUS528: Chapter 4 ideas (June 18 HW A)

Chapter 4 describes the documentation process before the project starts { from A to E }
Key words: charter, SOW, RACI matrix
A.         Proposal
Proposal consists of objective, budget, resource, schedule and deliverables. Most importantly the documentation should present quantitatively, such as including results from survey, and/or cost-benefit-analysis.
B.          Charter
Project Charter is 1-2 pages of definition of the project.  This has a statement of the scope.  It provides a preliminary delineation of roles and responsibilities, outlines the project objectives, identifies the main stakeholders, and defines the authority of the project manager. Project charter will never been changed while the project is being executed since it is for keeping the project not to be derailed from its original objective or scope.
C.          SOW = Statement of Work
SOW is a formal document that captures and defines the work activities, deliverables and timeline/due dates.  The list of { responsibility-deliverables-cost-deadlines } so that the description should not be the detailed level. The documentation can be both for the internal or external members of the organization.  i.e. contractors, venders
D.         Responsibility Matrix = RACI
RACI matrix describes the participation by various roles in completing tasks or deliverables for a project or business process. It is especially useful in clarifying roles and responsibilities in cross-functional/departmental projects and processes.

E.          Communication Plan
Tools: Email, Weekly basis Status meeting and Status reports.

BUS528: Chapter 3 ideas (June 18 HW A)

The following 3 are the main ideas in this chapter.

1.       How to define Stakeholders in the project
Stakeholders who are the heart of a successful project are groups and individuals who contribute to the project. Program management is to lead the stakeholders by defining what their authority is, and to whom they report.

2.       Types of Stakeholder
Types of stakeholders are: Sponsor, Resource, Decision Makers, and Customers.
  • Sponsor = Company or organization
  • Resource = Staff/Line managers
  • Decision maker = Upper management such as CFO,CEO, School Principal Etc.
  • Customers = who pay the bill or users

3.       Stakeholder analysis using Matrix
There is a good tool to manage stakeholders. Use { Power - Interests } matrix to allocates stakeholders. This can categorize the stakeholders to 4 groups.
I = Monitor, II = Keep Informed, III = Keep Satisfied, IV = Manage Closely
Priority for management is set accordingly.

BUS528: Evaluate the goal of the project against the "SMART" criteria

BUS528: SMART evaluation for the Project

Specific: Well defined.

Measurable: Yes. Each task is primitive and scoped out.

Agreed: Market is well researched and agreed by the customers.

Realistic: Time frame is realistic because all material and resource are available.

Time-Framed: Selected Good timing for the market place and feasible.

BUS528: Project

For BUS528 (Professor Tao) 1st assignment:

My progect is development of NextGen data center router which as low power consumption for enviromental safty. I use off-the-shelf components to save development time and costs.

The system consist of 4 hardware modules, where are the configuration board, switch fablic module, linecard, and chassis. It's software has roughly 2 components, routing protocol application and diagnostics.

All of above entities have to be integrated in appropriate time frame, and tested. The milestones are Gaber release, Production, and General availability. All of them has to be realistic dates.

BUS528 Project Management: Introduction

I wanted to study MBA for long time. My dream finally come true! I am in the MBA program since 2011 spring. California University of Management and Technology (CALMAT) where the campus is located in San Jose Down Town; The center of Silicon Valley. This is an exciting opportunity.

The following is the HW for CALMAT MBA BUS528 - Professor Eric Tao

First, I would like to introduce myself.
This is my second semester of CALMAT MBA course. I have taken 2 classes in the previous semester. I am working as a software developer specialized in system and hardware diagnostic application in networking equipment company. I've been working for the same company for 10 years. This means no doubt, I like my company. However I am looking for what to do next and want to move toward it once I find it.
I am from Japan. I graduated school and worked in both Japan (BE) and US (MS) so I probably know the cultural difference.

It is so exciting to learn bussiness related issues in CALMAT. Especialy, project management can be applied in many fields not only in business organization. In my understanding, project management is necessary to improve efficiency of the team work and meet the goal. I am expecting I will know how after taking this class.
